WE CREATE CHURCH HISTORY TOGETHER

The Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Hamburg in modern times. The Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Hamburg originated from the desire of people to establish the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of Kiev Patriarchate (UOC-KP) in Hamburg. In 2015 ten people met and signed the protocol for creation of the church community (meeting protocol is available). Then a request was sent to His Holiness Patriarch Filaret to bless the creation of the UOC-KP in Hamburg and to send a priest. In 2016 the representative of the community went to Kyiv and received a blessing to establish a parish (relevant document is available). For a long time, the UOC-KP had no priest for several reasons: 1) We could not find the premises for the church service. The doors of the other churches were closed to us because the Kiev Patriarchate was not recognized (the letters of refusal were preserved). 2) There was no financial assistance, no house for a priest to start this good mission. In November 2017, Father Yaroslav Bogodist collected and transported humanitarian aid from the city of Bremen (Germany) to the city of Kremenchug (Ukraine) for the Kremenchug Regional Specialized Childrens Home. Thanks to God's will, Father Yaroslav met with the Hamburg community, which revealed the desire of the community to create the Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Hamburg. Also, the challenges faced in building the Church were voiced. After the nine months of the hard work of the community and the priest, it was possible: – to gather a fairly large number of people who have expressed their desire to pray together (about 50 parishioners, however the potential is much larger) – to gain the lost trust among believers who doubted the creation of the Church after long search for the premises and the priest – to establish friendly relations with the communities of other cities in Germany, such as Hanover, Cologne, Bremen, Frankfurt am Main. – to organize a church choir with regular rehearsals – to arrange and hold the first three Liturgies at the premises of the Consulate General of Ukraine in Hamburg – to establish relationships with other denominations, namely Catholics and Protestants – to find a church community among Catholics who would temporarily allow to conduct the Liturgy in their temple – to organize a weekly sermon through the Internet on those days of the week when there is no Liturgy held It was the true way of Christian believers, who were united in the faith in Christ Jesus.
